Once known as Gem City because of its sparkling bay, Erie, Pennsylvania has many gems it would like to share with you. Erie is the fourth largest city in Pennsylvania and it is its only lake port city. One of Erie’s best features is it’s breathe taking sunsets over Lake Erie. According to Field & Stream magazine, Lake Erie is one of the Top 20 family fishing spots. Approximately 1.5 million fish are taken out of Lake Erie per year. Besides the great wonders provided by Lake Erie, Erie offers much in sports, art, music, all types of museum, outdoor recreation, and great festivities.
From pop to classical, to drama to comedy. Erie offers just about everything when it comes to theatre and music. Popular attractions include Lake Erie Ballet, Erie Play House, and Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center. For music the Erie Chamber Orchestra, Erie Youth Symphony, and the Civic Center are highly suggested. ExpERIEnce Children Museum, FireFighter Historical Museum, Inc., Erie Maritime Museum/U.S. Brig Niagara, Marx Toy Museum, Inc. are just a few of the very fascinating museums Erie has to offer.
Erie is home of the local baseball team, the Erie Seawolves, and the National Hockey League, the Otters. Erie is known for some beautiful parks where you can go and watch some spectacular sunsets. Presque Isle State Park is highly recommended. Waldameer Inc. & Water World and the Erie Zoo are also available for outdoor activities. Celebrate Erie is a great festival to go to. Taste of Erie kicks off Celebrate Erie and offers a large variety of food and music from all over town. Food, music, children events, and performing arts are available at the festival. As a closing ceremony to the festival you can go and watch a large fireworks display over Lake Erie.
