A restaurant that allows you to bring your own booze is new to me, so I was delighted to try a place that allows you tote in a favorite bottle of wine.
Pie in the Sky Cafe, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, offers cozy booths along the walls that provide some privacy if you prefer a more romantic setting for dinner. Other tables are out in the open, and although the restaurant is small, larger parties can be accommodated.
Bright paintings adorn the walls, while black and white squares add a whimsical touch to the floor.
The chefs have nothing to hide here. Pie in the Sky's kitchen is visible from the dining area, so patrons know they're getting quality food that's diligently prepared.
The menu changes frequently, so when you are first seated, your waiter will bring you the menu with special items daily. Appetizers like bruschetta, calamari, herb mushrooms or crawfish start off the meal with a tasty bang. Salads and homemade soups are popular to the regular patrons.
Some staple items here include crab cakes with vegetables and roasted red potatoes, ahi tuna, braised lamb shank, grilled veal or pork chops, game hen, salmon, rainbow trout, chicken marsala and delicately prepared pastas.
You also frequently see a grilled 10-ounce Delmonico steak on the menu, served with vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes and topped with onions. Homemade desserts vary, but the sample menu features peach cobbler, chocolate mousse, cinnamon bread pudding, cheesecake and pies.
After dinner, head over to Jr.'s Last Laugh for some comedy and drinks.
HelloErie Tip: Pie in the Sky takes reservations and walk-ins, and they also accept credit cards.
