The Pufferbelly Restaurant: Cozy dining at its finest

The Pufferbelly Restaurant is housed in what was formerly an old brick fire station. The fire station is from 1908, and the restaurant's decor stays closely tied to its history with artifacts and memorabilia on display for patrons.

The service is warm and cheerful, and the booths are cozy. Your eyes won't be overwhelmed by bright colors here -- the Pufferbelly sticks to browns, deep reds, mauves and subtle earth tones.

The Pufferbelly chefs keep the appetizers simple and charming -- you can order French onion soup, baked brie with almonds, toasted bread and apple wedges, tangy artichoke dip or breaded provolone sautéed and topped with marinara sauce.

I ordered the $9 Southwestern chicken pizza with Cajun chicken strips, roasted red peppers and red onions and topped with melted cheese. It was delicious, and large enough to have some to take home for later. I also sampled the food from my friends, including the chili, which is perfect for a cold Pennsylvania day, and a very refreshing salad. I've also been told that the Pasta Sophia and the quesadillas are patron favorites.

With lots of salads and sandwiches on the menu, Pufferbelly is a good choice for a quiet lunch with friends. Most of these menu items are under $10.

Entrée prices range from $14 to $24, and there are plenty of items to choose from -- strip steak, filet, chicken, salmon, veal, jumbo shrimp, ribs, pork chops or the catch of the day.

The Sunday Brunch & Buffet is about $17 a person and includes all the food you can eat. They've got an omelet station, roast beef cut to order and much more.
