BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for killing his teenage girlfriend's step-grandfather in the victim's Buffalo apartment in 2017.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Romaine Jirdon, of Buffalo, was given the indeterminate sentence Friday in county court, where he pleaded guilty in November to a second-degree murder charge.

Jirdon's guilty plea came nearly a year to the day that he and his then 17-year-old girlfriend, Alexandria Heath, beat and stabbed 58-year-old Thomas Heath to death inside his apartment.

Alexandria Heath, now 18, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder. She faces a maximum of 20 years to life in prison when she's sentenced Jan. 25.
